What does this mean?

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. Based on the photographs and description provided, the subject of this appraisal is a Selmer Mark VII Tenor Saxophone, serial number 244524. Selmer records date this piece to 1975 (https://www.conn-selmer.com/en-us/resources/serial-numbers/henri-selmer-paris-instrument-serial-numbers) and thus its model to a Mark VII.

Condition of the saxophone appears to be in good played condition, with presumably original lacquer, showing some wear. Selmer Mark VII tenor saxophones do not appear in traditional auction settings often, instead appearing on resale marketplaces such as Reverb.com and eBay frequently enough to form a basis for reliable comparable sales. In consideration of the factors noted, a Fair Market Value (pre-auction estimate) of this piece would be estimated between $2,500 and $3,000.

I tried, I hope you got it

The saxophone isn't 1975, my husband bought it when he was 15 yrs old in 1962. He played that sax all his life and in 1975 he was 28 yrs old. Thats not accurate.

I see you uploaded a new image for a serial number for a "backup" sax. If that sax is a Selmer Paris, it would be a Mark VI from 1964. Please feel free to start a fresh appraisal request for that different saxophone. Your Mark VII with the original serial number provided is indeed a 1975 origin, and presumably, that backup saxophone is your husband's original. That said it's certainly not from 1962 based on Selmer's serial number records, but it is a Mark VI.

Thank you for that. I think I mixed up the sax. you are right. the original sax I gave you must be the backup. the second one is the original. I need a new apprsisal.

You should be able to begin the new appraisal process at https://mearto.com/appraisal. At least you know the value of the backup now - it's a very nice sax!
