An English or Continental scrimshaw whale's tooth
Late 18th/early 19th Century
One side depicting a unicorn, lady and eagle, the other side depicting ships at sea, with a molded and decorated banding.
5 3/4-inches long
PROVENANCE: inherited from a collector of Revolutionary and Civil War memorabilia

TOGETHER WITH

An American whaling scene scrimshaw whale's tooth
probably 19th Century
Both sides profusely carved, one side depicting small boats harpooning a whale with whaleships in the background, the other side depicting the act of cutting the whale apart.
