What does this mean?

Hi Lois,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Primitive furniture can sometimes be difficult to identify the age as there are not stylistic features to pin it to one date or other...alternatively and perhaps more positively stated, they can be timeless!

Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:

An American provincial pine bench
probably 19th century
The sides with arched tops and bootjack ends, with a single-board seat with plain rail.
Overall height 22 inches, seat height 12 inches, length across sides 31 inches; depth 9 inches
CONDITION: wear appears to be normal and commensurate with age and use.
PROVENANCE: inherited
*represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary.

Thank you. Yes I was incorrect. the WIDTH of the seat portion is 29", and 31" including sides. The DEPTH of the seat is 9".
