Potable Turtle lamp
05 September 2022
Description

Heavy brownish base makes up the bottom side of the turtle including the head, feet and (sadly missing on mine) the tail. On top of this base it has a small light bulb (burnt out) With a silver sticker saying “Caution: to reduce the risk of fire use 15 Watt type G 16 1/2” lamps max made in chinaE127146. The base also includes the dark yellow-ish cord and a white clip holding it in place, as well as a two part spring loaded piece to hold shell on. It has a hole in the middle under the square that these are attached to and on the bottom a flat screw bottom sticks out a small amount and there are two near by small holes. Has a black pad sticker thing on each foot and three big holes. Lastly, a silver sticker saying “E127146 UL Listed lamp issue no. BH-20,595 “ The other part of the lamp is the shell starting with some kind of blackish gold metal type rim with a rectangular indent and a small circle by it on the long sides. It appears to have some globing where the bottom and start of the shell were welded(?) together that seems to match the material dividing up the shell design with some gold(rusting?) along the black inside of the Shell. When wiped with water and rag it let off a sulfur type smell. It has two rows small rectangles of assorted colored glass creating the lower shell and the rest consists of random shaped pieces of green, pink, and purple stained glass. Gorgeous colors once the think layer of dust was cleared off. Many colors kind of swirling into each other in different ways and directions in each section.

Dimensions

The base of the shell is about 7 inches in length and about 5 1/2 in in width. The shell’s height is apx 3 1/2 inch Tall. The top of the shell is about 2” by 2”. The base from head to where the tail should be is about 8 inches. 6” width on the base.

Provenance

Unknown. A friend was clearing out a home from a tenant of hers who had passed away and her family wouldn’t come take her belongings. I agreed to help box things up with her and she gave it to me.
