This porcelain sake cask is 15" tall x 13" in diameter. There are no cracks in this cask. However, there is a chip in the bottom of the base visible in one of the pictures.

This sake cask was bought in an antique store in Fukuoka, Japan in 1997. It has been in our possession since. I do not know any other information about this cask.

What does this mean?

Hello Jim,

Thank you for your appraisal inquiry with Mearto. The item presented appears to be Japanese sake or rice wine cask. The object appears to date to the Qing period and features kanji inscriptions to the underglaze. It appears this cask was the 10th casting of an unknown amount, as indicated to the top. The estimate provided is based on recent auction estimates and results of comparable objects, with similar dimension and age. The estimate is contingent on a full condition report. Please note asking or dealer prices may vary. Thank you and please take care.
