Can you tell more about the history of the "garden" pattern, style? Can you provide any more specifics of the region, village, style of maker? Can you interpret the "cartouche" at one end? Does impact its value - more or less if with or without it? What can you recommend in regards to next steps to sell, trade or exchange in Calgary or Alberta or Canada. From the photos of the number of knots and scale, can you identify if this is low, medium, high quality? Can you surmise the type of materials used Is there any international market for this? What would you recommend regarding selling and how to best get in contact with appropriate experts?

"Garden" carpets are a late 19th century term for carpets that have a lush allover foliate design; they were NOT intended for use out of doors or in a garden.
Kashan is in the Isphahan province, south of Tehran. There were lots of tribal rug centers in that province (and throughout Iran) so it is difficult to pinpoint exactly where this was made.
The calligraphic script may identify the rug maker or more specific area of production; often, these calligraphic inscriptions are "gibberish" but I can reach out to a friend who can read Arabic and Farsi to see if they can translate it. No additional charge but they may not be able to get back to me quickly...and I need your OK to reach out to them.
The size, colors and patterns are more relevant to value than the script content, particularly if its gibberish.
This is a medium/high quality rug, that was most likely made from sheep's wool (rather than camel or silk, silk being the highest quality).
I'll forward your comments to our customer service department to direct you to auction houses in your area; I am not aware of any Canadian firms specializing in rugs but you can always contact one of the higher-end auction houses like Christie's or Sotheby's who will have representatives throughout Canada with direct access to rug experts in New York City or London.
Does that help? Let me know if you have additional questions or concerns, and if you'd like me to try to get a translation for you.
Thanks!

Delia, thank you for the additional information. I am new to Persian rugs and this is all new and interesting information. I would like to do more research and any pointers in the right direction or websites that could help me do more research would be appreciated. Yes, please reach out to any and all who may be able to help provide some insight as to the script. The estimated value that you placed on the rug, how would one go about obtaining that if you are not aware of any dealers in Canada....would i be required to contact large auction houses to try and obtain that price or is this site able to help me reach that audience. Again thank you for your insight as I really don't know what the next step should be.

An email with the photo of the calligraphic script has been sent but I’ve gotten an ‘out-of-office’ email has bounced back that they are away through this next week with limited access to email. I’ll forward their response.
My knowledge of rugs comes from books; online links etc arent fully vetted and not wholly reliable. Several rug dealers have information on their websites but I take those with a grain of salt.
The values I quoted were for auction, not dealer prices; you are certainly able to see what a rug dealer near you would buy this for but keep in mind that MOST dealers will try to buy for as little as possible so as to maximize their return once they sell things....and prices they quote on websites are RETAIL prices, which are always higher than the fair-market (for auction) prices Mearto appraises for.

I heard back and, as I suspected, the calligraphy was largely intelligible; they could make out that this was from Iran but nothing else.
