What does this mean?

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.

It is a beautiful gold ruby and diamond. Such vintage jewellery are being offered at auction on a regular basis.
The ring has a very lovely and classic design that enhances the beautiful ruby stone set with a halo of diamonds. It is very elegant. This particular design and the size of the ruby stone as well as the clarity and colour of the diamonds will attract many buyers and dealers if it were to come up for auction. It is a design that has been popular for years so it is hard to say exactly when it was made, other that possibly during the late 20th Century.

The estimate provided is for a well-advertised specialised online jewellery auction, where I believe the ring has the best chance of realising its fullest potential. However, there is no measurement for the sentimental value you might attach to the elegant ruby and diamond gold ring. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions. I’m happy to help.
Thank you

Appraisal indicates $800 for insurance but up to $1,000 retail? Insurance companies often use replacement cost valuations so should the appraisal be corrected?

Hello Nicolle,

Thank you very much for purchasing online appraisals from Mearto! Sabrina has provided you with a fair market valuation, that is, an estimate of what the ring could sell for at auction. We do not offer insurance or replacement valuations, but I notice that you included the insurance valuation of $800 in your description of the item, so I assume that you've received one from elsewhere.

The range of $700 to $1,000 is based on recent auction results for similar items and, as Sabrina has indicated, retail or asking prices may be higher and vary.

I hope that this provides some clarification, if you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

Best regards,
Lindsey Bourret
