What does this mean?

Hello Cindra,

I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal,

Considering the photographs, overall pattern, glass quality and the technique, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Blowned Murano Glass Sea Turtle from the Dino Rosin Arte Studio in Murano, Venice. Dino Rosin and his studio is one of the most innovative studios of the late 20th century by their rediscovery of Calcedonia Glass. In 1977 the master Loredano Rosin, working with his brother Dino, achieved the miracle of calcedonia once again in history, using this ancient and historical glass to produce hand made sculpture of modem style and design. Calcedonia, as its name implies, is a type of glass that echoes the multicolored striations of the zoned agate. The colors, shades-and markings of the mysterious calcedonia result from a chemical process intrinsic to each batch of glass; a reaction based on the effect of the silver on the other minerals and substances used to make glass. Even today the production of calcedonia is an expensive and unpredictable process, more akin to alchemy than to chemistry. While the action of silver on the other materials generally results in a blend of colors – browns, greens, and hint of blue – the exact shades and degree of striation cannot be controlled and vary from day to day and item to item. Each piece is a unique and irrepeatable work of art combining an ancient technical process with the best of modem craftsmanship. Your piece is a ver valuable piece of art from the top Venetian Glass Masters of our era. Your piece that depicts a turtle also has a different aspect from the other works of Dino Rosin in market. his piece has a seperate shell with a peculiar style. As stated by the current owner, the shell was probably an experimental process of glass blowing with an enhanced stage Calcedonia work trying to implicate the particular circular and colourful natural Agate pattern. Ths is almost non-existent in the market at the moment. The glass shell depicts a very detailed and elegant pattern, carefully shaped by Dino Rosin's studio. Body of the Turtle has been shaped by various colours of Calcedonia technique. We can mostly detect the domination of purple and blue colour alongside some brown in lower feet. The piece was purchased directly from Murano. The piece is in very good condition without any visible faults.

Entirely Hand Blown Murano Glass.

Dimensions: 26 Inches Long, 24 Inches Wide, 8 Inches Tall

Condition: The piece is in very good condition without any visible faults.

Provenance: Purchased from Murano, shipped to US.

Heavily decorated by Calcedonia patterns.

12.000-15.000$ would represent a fair market value.

Please don’t hesitate to reach us again for more online appraisals on your precious items, thank you for choosing Mearto.

Thank you so much for your detailed appraisal and description. Is this a piece you'd wish to purchase from us? Or have it shipped to you for consignment? I've worked with several art galleries (mostly jewelry and Native American focused) and know how proper display of a piece can increase value. Anyway, he's so beautiful and we'd like him to swim off to a good home :) Cindra
