This sword was aquired on Guadal Canal 1943 during WW2 from a japanese soldier. I had it appraised in the mid 80"s and they told me it wasn't Japanese but a Mongolian sword from the era of Kublai Kahn and is approx 700 to 800 years old. They could not give me a price. I'm not sure if that info is accurate but the Mongols invaded Japan in 1274 which could explain how it got in the possession of a Japanse soldier. Theres a silver letter opener type item which stores in the scabbard. There's a place for 2 of these but one is missing. I was told they were hair pins. The blade is still very sharp.
