Description

Overall length 18" Blade length 13" Handle 5" Scabbard is wooden with silver and gold decorative metal detail Handle is snake or reptile skin material

Provenance

This sword was aquired on Guadal Canal 1943 during WW2 from a japanese soldier. I had it appraised in the mid 80"s and they told me it wasn't Japanese but a Mongolian sword from the era of Kublai Kahn and is approx 700 to 800 years old. They could not give me a price. I'm not sure if that info is accurate but the Mongols invaded Japan in 1274 which could explain how it got in the possession of a Japanse soldier. Theres a silver letter opener type item which stores in the scabbard. There's a place for 2 of these but one is missing. I was told they were hair pins. The blade is still very sharp.
