Mauser Gew98
02 February 2021
Description

Manufactured in Danzig in 1901. Appears to be completely unmodifed apart from the updated rear sight for Spitzer ammunition. No cracks/repairs. Bolt has serial # crossed out and re-stamped with # on receiver. Receiver, bottom metal & front barrel band matching #'s, butt plate & cocking shroud/safety not. I am unsure as to why this rifle features a sling attachment instead of the stacking hook, as stated before the barrel band # matches the receiver. All in all, the rifle appears to be in remarkable pre WW1 condition. The wood is immaculate, bore is clean w/strong rifling. Though I have not fired it, the rifle appears to be in perfect working order with no noticeable issues.

Dear Edward,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry my sincere apologies for the delay with the appraisal.

The presented object appears to be an Imperial German Gewehr 98 produced 1901 in Danzig as visible on the receiver. This rifle is in good condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 400 to 800 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.

With kind regards,
Georg

Well it's not a carabine. It's an Imperial German Gewehr 98. The standard infantry rifle of the Imperial German Army in World War 1. The K98 is a World War 2 rifle not produced until 1935.
