Gllass and chromed steel table in the style of Mies Van der Rohe. The table is not signed but is believed to pre date the Knoll production. I purchased it in the mid 90s from a house clearance in Westcliff on sea Essex. It was known by the owner to have come from a neighbouring apartment as her husband had expressed an interest it was given to him around 1950. The apartment building ARGYL HOUSE was completed in 1937 in the international modern style so would be unsurprised if such an item of furniture may have been in a show flat.
Glass top 40” x 3/4” Chrome base 16”H x 37 3/4” W the bars are approximately 1 1/4” x 7/16”
The owner from which I purchased the item confirmed it had been given to to her husband around 1950 she didn’t like it and when he died it was sold along with unrelated items as part of the clearance. I remembered seeing a similar table in an architectural book. I absolutely loved it so she said I could have it for free. I ended up giving her £40 as didn’t feel right not paying something for it.
