Late 1800’s miniature porcelain doll
27 December 2019
Description

This miniature porcelain doll, in its original packaging, complete with waxed stamped seals, was my great grandmothers. My grandmother was born in 1918, so this was HER mother’s- meaning it was a toy roughly 20 or so years prior we assume- so maybe just about 1900 or late 1800’s. It is in nearly perfect condition, for its age.

Provenance

It was my great grandmothers in the late 1800’s, stored, and now given to me by my father.

What does this mean?

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.

It is a beautiful doll. Such antique dolls are being offered at auction on a regular basis.
I believe it may be a doll house doll judging from the size of the doll. The hairstyle and way it was made indicates that it is from the late 1800s as you described, possibly between 1870-1890. It may be either German or French. Without seeing the marks (if any) on the back of the head. The condition of the head and porcelain arms are very important when selling and appraising old dolls. They must be without cracks, hairlines and chips in order to get the best prices. The doll will sell for somewhere between 130-230 US$ if it came up for sale - the price depending on the condition of the head and arms and the body which is probably either made of linen or leather.

The estimate provided is for a well-advertised specialised online toys auction, where I believe the dollhouse doll has the best chance of realising its fullest potential. However, there is no measurement for the sentimental value you might attach to the lovely doll. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions. I’m happy to help.
Thank you
