Description: A signed and dated 1995 hand sculpted ceramic portrait bust sculpture of a woman, Mrs. Paul Pankerton, wearing a hair bun atop her head and her neck covered with a large collar, scarf that overlaps at the chin by Laszlo Ispanky in the artist’s mature and highly realistic style. Information: Sir Laszlo Ispanky was world known sculptor. He was born in Budapest, Hungary and served in the Hungarian Army. He was a POW and during the Hungarian Revolution of 1956, Laszlo Ispanky escaped and emigrated to the United States. The artist was awarded a Fellowship to the Cranbook Academy of Art to study and teach sculpting. Ispanky moved to New Jersey in early 1960 and became the Master Sculptor for Cybis Porcelains, creating many fine porcelain figurines and the 48 State Flower Bouquet for the World's Fair. In 1966, he started his own porcelain company with partner George Utley. In 1968, the firm was named Ispanky Porcelains Ltd. of Trenton, NJ. He is known for his unique ability to realistically capture a person’s feature in terra cotta clay. He has sculpted the image of Pope John Paul II and many other celebrities. His works are included in major public and private collections. Sir Laszlo Ispanky was Knighted into the Sovereign Order of St. John of Jerusalem (Knights of Malta) in 1977 in recognition of his contributions to art and culture. He was also Knighted into the Order of St. George by the Vatican. The piece is in excellent condition consistent with age and wear. Dimensions (in inches): 17 x 11 inches; 24 ½ lbs.
