103cm wide x 88xm high, oil painting of the Yarra River looking towards Melbourne Australia. has North Kew address on the back which could be his address or the purchasers in Melbourne. Has 48 I think under his signature which is obviously 1948. Some cracking of paint in the clouds but it is a stunning oil painting.
Purchased from private owner who found it in an op shop
The appraised work is a 20th century oil painting executed by Australian artist John Samuel Loxton (1903-1971). The work is signed in the lower left corner and possibly dated ‘1948.’ Loxton primarily painted landscapes across Australia but also executed still lifes and occasionally more urban scenes. He studied at the National Gallery School in Melbourne and exhibited widely throughout Australia and Europe. The estimate provided is based on comparables recently offered and sold at auction. In many cases, pricing for similar examples available on the primary (retail) market vary, and are often higher than secondary (auction) market examples.
