Iwaki Fukushima Lighthouse
17 September 2018
Description

This is a watercolor that I know nothing more about. around 18" x 24". The only thing I know is that it is a picture of a lighthouse in Fukushima Prefecture Japan. I would like to know if there is anything about the painter or the painter was just a local guy making a picture.

Provenance

I purchased this at an antique mall.

What does this mean?

Thank you for submitting your item for appraisal. This appears to be late 20th century japanese watercolour in an expensive sheet gold decorated and embossed custom made frame, according to the inspription depicting a lighthouse and dated 20th day of the fourth month, signed 描崎 (?). I can´t find anyone with that artist name listed. There are traces of pencil visible, presumably a preparatory scetch, which might indicate, as you put it, that it is just a local guy, but the expensive frame would speak against that assumption. The estimate is based on similar watercolours by lesser known artist offered or sold at auction.
