This painting is done on New Orleans roof slate. This slate came over from Europe as bellast on sailing ships and used as building material once the ships reached the port of New Orleans. Slate has been as building material for the last three hundred years in the city, tho the slate itself is millions of years old. The slate itself is millions of years old.
