What does this mean?

Hi Julie,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Hummel figures were highly popular among collectors from the 1940s-80s; as a result, there are many more currently on the market than demand, so individual values are low, with most valued between $10-30 each. Yours however, have atypical marks that I have not been able to find in my files on Hummel so they are worth a bit more...$30-50 each
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:

Two vintage Hummel painted porcelain collectible figurines
made by Goebels, West Germany, comprising:
"Telling Her Secret," #196
"The Builder", #305
each marked unusually
Telling Her Secret: 5 1/4 inches tall
The Builder: 5 inches tall
CONDITION: both appear to be in good condition, no packaging
PROVENANCE: inherited
$30-50 each or $60-100*
*represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary.

Please let us know if you have additional items to appraise, and thank you again for using Mearto.

I would like to take your advice and add the dimensions. Your website will not allow me to do that. Do you know how I would go about doing that? Thank you

Appraisers can only amend the appraisal so leave me a comment with the dimensions and I'll plug them in.

2.5 x 5.2 x 3 inches for Telling Her Secret

2.5 x 5 x 2.5 inches for The Builder

Also, people are selling these for a lot more than your quote. I'm wondering why you have given such a low suggested price?

Delia Aug 23, 10:53 UTC

I'm assuming you're seeing higher prices on retail websites like Etsy and Ruby Lane, or on eBay, which may be an auction but is also a site were prices listed aren't regulated and there's no transparency (people can put whatever price they like and usually list on the high side with the expectation that they might have to negotiate down). Also, eBay rarely posts what things actually sell for. Mearto uses fair-market auctions - where a low/high estimate spread is given and in which the selling prices are always openly disclosed. When offered in a public fair-market auction, MOST Hummel figures bring between $10-30 dollars. I valued yours higher because they have unusual marks.
