Description

It is a horn-shaped stone carving circa 38 cm long. The carving is on the one side and it represents what seems to be fish and fishermen. I am not sure of the material

Presumably not genuine

Thank you for submitting your item for appraisal. This appears to be a piece of cast resin in the shape of a carved ivory tusk. The chinese or italian forgers usually added some marble powder to the resin to add some weight. There are several open air bubbles from the cast, this is a clear indication. Ivory is a very hard and dense material and would show so called Schreger lines. Unfortunately this cast tusk has a decorative value only.

It doesn't seem like ivory but it is very heavy and I thought it was a stone carving. Anyway, thank you for your reply
