Gucci Purse, Unused
01 December 2020
Description

Never used Gucci tote bag, model 40.02.015, with 1987 original receipt, and documentation. I found this stuffed in the back of my stepmother's closet after she passed away. The interior looks a little worn and I don't know if that is normal. There appears to be a small almost hairline tear on the handle strap, a picture of it is enclosed.

Provenance

According to the receipt, my stepmother bought this Gucci bag at the Amsterdam Airport Shopping Center on 7-8-1987. I know she never used it because it still has the plastic tag on it although the paper part is gone. It still has the paper stuffing it was packed with as well as the Gucci draw cord bag for storage.

What does this mean?

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.

It is a beautiful Gucci tote bag. Such vintage designer accessories and handbags are being offered at auction on a regular basis.
Gucci is one of the brands that are very popular by both collectors and dealers. Your handbag is in very good condition and it is almost a shame that it was never used, however for the selling price this is very good. The fact that you still have the original receipt, the dustbag and information about where and when the handbag was bought adds to the value.
The design of the handbag was very popular in the late 1900s and early 2000s and it has all the popular details as the logo, and the stribed band.

The estimate provided is for a well-advertised specialised online vintage designer items auction, where I believe the Gucci tote bag has the best chance of realising its fullest potential. However, there is no measurement for the sentimental value you might attach to the lovely handbag. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions. I’m happy to help.

This inside lining looks worn to me. (See the 7th picture) Is this normal or was it caused by the paper stuffing or just age? I don't want to sell it on an auction platform and have someone come back to me with complaints.

Also, does that little nick on the handle (see 2nd to the last picture) affect the value?

I know this sounds dumb, but should I keep the paper it was stuffed with?

What auction platform do you recommend I use to get the best price?

Your item will be presented for several auction houses, but they tend only to be interested in items worth more than $1000. I would recommend eBay for these kinds of items because of the extended amount of buyers on the platform.
I would upload good photos of the interior of the handbag too and descripe any minor details and faults like you have in this case. Yes do keep the paper - it all adds to the originality of the handbag.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions. I’m happy to help.
Thank you
