It's an oil painting, approximately 7' x 5', on canvas with an irregular weave, suggesting that it was not machine-made. It shows a woman dressed in what looks like Elizabethan dress, holding a palm frond in her left hand and beckoning to the right with her right hand. She is back-lit, with most of the light concentrated around her head. Lilies are visible in the background. The painting is in an ornate gold frame approximately 4" wide.
Provenance unknown. I bought it from a person who was moving from a finely furnished mansion to a smaller house and wanted to downsize. They are people who made lots of money in the 80s and probably bought this painting when they had money to burn. I paid them $2K for it, I think, and they didn't know much about it, said they had provenance papers somewhere but never supplied them to me.
