Ghisbert Combaz "Art Neuveau" Vase: art-glass
03 October 2019
Description

This is a roughly 2' x 6" yellow vase. It is somewhat 3-dimensional, as it looks like 3 vases stacked on each other when in fact all one piece. The logo is very clearly marked signed Ghisbert Combaz Belgium 1869-1941. It is signed with one of his 3 signatures. It took me a long time to identify the logo. This vase is not typical of artwork he has done. However, not unheard of because he "dabbled" in many art mediums and was also an attorney. Very diversified individual. I understand his art is very collectable, Christie's sold at auction in 2018 a traditional lithograph by him for $28,000 USD. Much of his art was destroyed in WWII. The vase is in pristine condition. There is no damage that I can see.

What does this mean?

Dear Frank,
Sorry for the delay in my response. Thank you again for providing the additional information that I requested. As you can probably tell, this inquiry required a more sleuthing working than normal. This is due to the fact the Gisbert Combaz is mainly known for his artwork. The only auction results found were for his works on paper. After speaking with colleges, it cannot be ruled out that he dabbled in other mediums, which was very common for artists especially during the early 20th century. I would also suggest that you take the vase to an authenticator to look at in person and confirm that it was by Combaz. Your vase appears to be made out of blown glass and is in good condition. Based on the style of the vase I would think it was made during the early to mid 20th century. Since no records of sales for pieces like this exist by the artist, fair market value would be between 0 and 20000 US dollars, depending on authentication. Thank you again for contacting Mearto with your inquiry. If you have any questions please let me know

Thanks,
Morgan

Hi Morgan,
Thank you for your help. I have included a photo of the makers mark on this vase. It is almost impossible to photograph ( I tried for hours) and is only clearly seen with a 100x loupe. Not sure how else I can help other than sending you the original item.
Best, and thank you!
Frank Manning

Hi Morgan,
I sent the best image I was able to take with my IPhone. I did forward it. I did a “reverse-lookup” to find the artist, Ghisbart Combaz, the Mark seen with the 100x loupe is the “G” looking logo, clearly visible, I also sent with the original group of pictures. I hope this is enough information for you to complete an appraisal. I do understand the appraisal might be conditional on logo verification, which is understandable. Please let me know if I can further assist. At this point, a phone call may be appropriate. Please call, Frank Manning 240-457-0251. Thanks again!
Best!
Frank
