Intaglio Painting Geisha - painting technique invented by Jean-Claude Gaugy sculpter and artist. Ht is 33" x wd-29" x D-1 1/2 - Painting of Geisha girl holding drum. The artist is his wife who paints the picture (Michelle Gaugy) then he finishes.

Provenance

In-laws passed away. Mother in-law purchased in Dec 1983 in Los Gatos California. artist studio. They now reside in Santa Fe

Thank you for submitting your item for appraisal. This appears to be a painting depicting a geisha, inspired by an ukiyo-e woodblock print by Ichirakusai Eisui. Based on the information you provided a work by Jean-Claude GAUGY (1944). The artist scratched the outlines into the fresh paint. Few paintings by Gaugy were sold at auction. The estimate is based on these few results
