this is an Entirely Hand Knotted Turkish Antalya Döşemealtı Runner Rug. The piece dates back to the period from 1970-1980. Döşemealtı Rugs are known with their characteristic motifs and colour. They're native to the city of Antalya, which is a Meditarrenean city of Turkey. Döşemealtı is a town located closely to the Taurus Moutains and therefore the climate of it is considerably different from those of costal area of Antalya. This difference can be seen as the main motive of knotting rugs. This is a runner rug which means it was designed and knotted to be place in a hallway. The piece is decorated with a bright red base at the centre of the piece. The center is decorated with Chest motifs alligned through the center as a stripe and the interiors of the chests are decorated with Scorpion and Star motifs with ram horns as surrounding. The border are traditionally decorated with stars in every section and the border are constructed with many seperated areas divided with dice patterns. There is also a represented chain on the interior border. The piece has a metal seal attached to it which was used as a proof for the originality of the piece back in the 1970's to 1980's. Knot quality is expected for a Döşemealtı piece and the motifs are rendered in moderate quality. The piece is knotted wool on wool.
