I was told this sofa dates to the 1840s when Van Buren was president. It is approximately 88 inches wide, 37.5 inches high and 26 inches deep. The wood is a dark brown cherry color, mahogany perhaps. The backs of the rolled arms are decorated in a scrolled wood accent and what looks to me like a bellows shape, big and round with an upper neck. It was reupholstered before I bought it, fairly recently in a nice gold brocade patterned cloth. It sets atop two big, stable wooden pedestal-type feet or bases.
