I have a Buddha statue, carved out of wood, not sure what kind. It is about 15 inches tall, and i believe a laughing Buddha, he is smiling with his arms in the air, his fingers together but his thumb separated from them. He has a necklace around his neck that comes down the front of his chest, and breasts and belly button are exposed. Below the belly button, he seems to be wearing a tied sarong that is tied with a sash, or string. His teeth inside his mouth are perfectly aligned and separated appropriately.
A lady who was like a mother to me, willed it to me. She was 92 years of age when she died. She met a woman in Europe, just after World War II, who invited her to go to Africa with her, as an aid and interpreter, as she knew a lot of languages. She was originally from Sweden. During this trip she saw this Buddha and fell in love with it, and purchased it. When I met her, until her death, she had this Buddha on a long two tiered piece of furniture that was visible when you came into her front room. I don't have much else that I can tell you about it, but I am estimating, and this is only an estimate, that she bought it perhaps in the late forties or early fifties, but that is not a certainty. I make that assumption based on what she told me about herself, where she traveled, etc.
