David Hicks Dining Table and Chairs
Walnut Table Size: 10ft long 48" at widest, 38" wide at ends. Slight water mark to top and one corner has come unglued 10 chairs and 2 carver chairs - upholstered Chairs original upholstery was 6 dusky pink and 6 dusky green. Carver chairs need re-dowling on arms
20 years ago we purchased this table and chairs from a lady in Romsey Hampshire, who had had this table in storage for several years, It originally had a glass top to protect it (this got broken in storage) She told us she was the Granddaughter of Lord Mountbatten and the table originally came from his house, Broadlands and had been designed by her uncle. We have researched her uncle and it was David Hicks and he did indeed design whole rooms for Broadlands but that was after 1983. We have been told the table is 1960's/1970's. David Hicks married into the family in 1960. So must have been in the house before he did the rooms. It has a metal plate on the bottom of the table with a number on S 3744 3250 (see photo)

Thank you for the additional photos and information. Your walnut dining table and chairs made by Brersford and Hicks dates from the about the second quarter of the 20th century and is in fair condition. The design of the table appears to be a nice blending of Art Deco and Mid Century Modern, so I would suggest that the table was made when the taste was changing. As for the provenance given it is a possibility. The metal plaque under the table seems to a catalogue or inventory number. I checked to see if it was a style number belonging to Beresford and Hicks and it is not. In my opinion, the provenance of the table would not greatly affect the price. Based on the present condition of your table and chairs at fair market value would be between 500-750 US dollars. Please feel free to let me know if you have additional questions.

We have found another badge on further inspection...see photos added. We know that Beresford and Hicks manufactured to customers own design. We have searched the internet for something similar but to no avail, so must have been Customers own design.
