17x20 Lacquer (I think) on Mechanical Board . Paint looks like it's for cars not art. It seems primed and holds well. Very tough paint if that makes sense. On a 2000 Letramax Mechanical Board which is unusual to have. This was hidden behind another backing in the frame.
My mom gave to me when I moved into a new home about 6 years ago I believe and I needed pictures to fill my walls basically to fill wall space. I'm not sure where she got it from I would imagine since she was not a huge fan of it I believe it was either given to her or she got from garage sale. I had it in my bathroom for 2 years and took it down when I was changing my decor I held on to it when was going to donate it a couple of years ago and I needed a frame and I wanted to use the frame on this painting so I took it off and found behind another backing the signatures and note to a Dave Terry. I still had no clue who the artist was I assume since they mentioned Port Aransas that this was just done by somebody local. however the title is the reason why I kept it. My mother had just passed away of cancer and she collected anything that had angels on it and felt she would have never given this to me had she known the title of the painting. Just recently I discovering Google Lens and I submitted the picture of this and the results came back showing a white-hot magazine piece done where they interviewed the artist Billy Al Bengston who was showcasing pieces of art that were not of his usual Style. The piece girls demand excitement was what came up and it had the exact same color scheme as mine. I could not deny the colors especially the navy blues and the just all the colors were exactly the same. I looked into the artist I compared the signature the A which he does like a star is what said to me this could very well be by this artist. I already had an online appraisal where the appraiser confirmed it was his work and valued it at $6,600 to $7,200. These two pieces are are the only pieces I've found of his that are not of his usual style and patterns and so I think this is unusual I think that these are his best two pieces but I know that my opinion holds no weight. I've had 2 local galleries one is an auction house offer to consign and have left the ball in my court to move forward with consignment.I did reach out to the artist by suggestion of LAMA who sent me his information from his website since he is still alive and asked if he could confirm this was his this was about a week ago I have not heard back but I will be following up in about another week or so. Thanks.
