I believe this to be a Chinese Huanghuali framed paneled carved altar table that sits on four hoof feet. This beautiful table is very light and the wood is a light color on the outside and very dark with a some red inside. The intricate openwork carving depicts dragon motif throughout and the details are exquisite. Measures 56" long x 18" deep x 34" high and weighs 31 pounds.

Dear Lisa,

You have a lovely 19th century Chinese altar table. Its well carved and gilded. I do not believe Huanghuali wood is used, its has a different grain and it rarely painted or gilded . These tables are sought after in the market since Chinese antiques are doing very well.

Nice example of Huanghuali wood / grain.

Can you give me any information on this table other than saying you do not believe it's made of Huanghuali wood? Such as age or type of wood used?

Dear Lisa,

Your table is lacquered and painted. That means its hard to see the grain and authentic color of the wood. Normally these tables are made of Elmwood. I wrote that your table is made in the 19th century. Style and form are made throughout the ages in more or less the same manner. So it is not easy to say; it is made around 1810 or its made in 1880. I prefer to use a more general notice, as also all auction houses do in these cases.
If you have more questions please let me know.
