This painting got its name from an old fiddling tune and measures about 21 x 29 overall (not inclusive of the frame which measures 31 x 39). It has been shown in the Gilcrease Museam in Tulsa and the Ashby-Hodge Gallery of American Art in Mo. as well as in a number of smaller shows. A file on this painting is included with the sale which contains records of past insurance and correspondence with museams. Three books about Mr. Willson's work are included with this sale. There is also a letter in the file from Charles Banks Wilson (written in 1994), wherein he offered to repurchase the painting "for sentimental reasons". This painting was used for a popular lithograph which was printed in 1968. Mr. Wilson told me that the subject was an employee of the City of Miami who worked for the utility maintenance department. In 2001, Charles Banks Wilson was declared an "Oklahoma Treasure" during Oklahoma Governor's arts awards.
Mr. Wilson taught art at the NE Oklahoma College in Miami, Ok. While there, he created this painting and later gifted it to his friend, John Wallace.
