Description

This appears to be perhaps a Roman woman holding a bird. I think it is made of bronze and set on a marble base. The statue itself measures 16.5 inches tall, and has an arm span of 8.5 inches. The marble base measures 7.25" x 7.25 inches. I see no marks or signature on it. It weighs 10 pounds.

What does this mean?

Hello Pam,

Thank you for your appraisal inquiry with Mearto. The item presented appears to be bronze cast reproduction after a work known as the peplophoros (female figure) from the region of Mount Pindos. The original work dates to 450 BCE. The original is held in the collection of the National Archaeological Museum of Athens, Greece. Below is a link detailing the original object.

The estimate provided is based on recent auction estimates and results of other comparable bronze reproductions after peplophoros statutes. The estimate is contingent on a full condition report. Please note asking or dealer prices may vary. Thank you and please take care.
