What does this mean?

Dear Maria,

Thank you for the second appraisal. Is this piece signed or marked in some way? You suppose the French artist Auguste Rodin as the maker of this pendant or figurine?

With kind regards,
Georg

It was from Auguste Rodin in 1910 when Malvina was there studying with him. It was a spontaneous gift and I see no signature. It came to me with the other Malvina Hoffman pieces.

Dear Maria,

Thank you for your second request and your patience. The presented object is a stone or hardwood carving with the measurements of approx. 2"x2" circular. It has the shape of two fishes and two holes for a string in the middle. This could be a pendant or more probably a "Netsuke" made in Japan in the early 20th century. This interpretation expalins also the holes for the string. Sadly this piece cant´be attributed to any works of Auguste Rodin.
This piece is damaged and there is a crack visible.
An estimation would be between 150 to 300 USD.
This estimation is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.

With best regards,
Georg

The piece is black belgian marble. Thank you for your help.

Dear Maria,

Sadly this piece is highly probable not made from Belgium marble. It was made in Japan using a Japanese stone. Sorts of black marble can be found on nearly every continent. Perhaps Rodin gave this as a gift but he didn't make it by himself.

With kind regards,
Georg
