What does this mean?

Hi Patrick,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:

An autographed Rawlings National League baseball
mid/late 1990s; bearing stamp of Leonard s. Coleman Jr. (1994-1999)
indistinctly signed and numbered --2
PROVENANCE: inherited
$40-60*

It says official ball national league. Made by Rawlings. He followed angels/Dodgers? There is a signed named as president. How do I send that to you? We could then narrow time period by sponsor and pres signature

Patrick brown Apr 19, 22:51 UTC

Also the national league president on the ball looks like Leonard s. Coleman Jr.

So the ball was used 1994-1999. Does that help?

Delia Apr 20, 10:56 UTC

That's really helpful. You should be able to attach additional photos to this inquiry.
I've done some preliminary checking - Lasorda wore Dodgers jersey #2 during that time frame and then the number was retired. None of the Angels who wore that number in that age range look like that signature...but I'll keep checking.
It's likely this has less market value than sentimental value, particularly given that its not a very old ball and the signature is pretty faint and somewhat illegible but I will do what I can do. Additional photos of the marks may help.

Hi!

I am not good w technology! How would I be able to send you additional pictures?

Patrick brown Apr 20, 15:24 UTC

Ok added additional photos

Delia Apr 22, 10:54 UTC

Thanks for the additional photos.
I've combed through all of the teams in both American and National Leagues for the years between 1994 and 1999 and have not come up with any player who wore jersey #2 whose signatures come close to yours. The only other thing I can think of would be for me to reach out to a contact who is a baseball memorabilia appraiser for his thoughts on who this might be.
Is that OK?

Patrick brown Apr 22, 15:18 UTC

Yes please I really would appreciate it so much!!!!!!!!!!

Patrick brown Apr 23, 16:45 UTC

Have you heard anything further from memorabilia appraiser?

Delia Apr 23, 16:48 UTC

I've reached out to a contact at Heritage Auctions - they have several baseball collectibles appraisers there - apologies that this is taking longer than I had expected but if anyone will know who signed this ball, they will...
as soon as I hear from them I will let you know, and thanks again for your patience!

Patrick brown Apr 23, 16:51 UTC

Ok thanks!

Patrick brown Apr 26, 14:29 UTC

Have you heard anything further about the baseball?

Delia Apr 26, 14:34 UTC

Nothing from over the weekend but I have prodded them again this morning, which is a little unusual but I refer quite a bit of business their way so its in their interest to get back to me ASAP.
I promise to forward whatever I heard immediately, apologize for the delay and thank you again for your patience.

Thank you!!!

[FINALLY!]
Three of the baseball experts, at Heritage - one of whom is considered “the guy” when it comes to identifying autographs - looked at this. The two had no clue, and the autograph expert simply said:
“I am stumped on this one. My guess is a middle infielder given the low number – 2.”
So...in terms of value, you're not looking at very much. Fair market value not much more than $50 for this. It would be catalogued as:
An autographed Rawlings National League baseball
mid/late 1990s; bearing stamp of Leonard s. Coleman Jr. (1994-1999)
indistinctly signed and numbered --2
PROVENANCE: inherited
$40-60*
