Asian netsuke
22 January 2019
Description

Each item is about an inch and a half tall and wide. They are smooth and look like some of the other netsuke in my collection, but they are not signed. Ivory is what the others have been presumed to be. I dont know what they are I'm only guessing from the other appraisals.

What does this mean?

Thank you for submitting your item for appraisal. These appear to be 19th century japanese stag antler or bone netsuke. One is in the shape of a dog, showing an insert at the top and at the bottom, indidcating that this is a piece of bone. The carving and engraving is excellent. The hare or rabbit is well carved and shows clear signs of good patina / wear. The estimate is based on recent auction results. A true collector might be willing to pay more than the high estimate.
