Asain Painting pair.
15 October 2019
Description

The actual picture itself measures at 17-1/2 30-1/2 without the border. 22-1/2 by 32-1/2 with the frame. It's spread across a soft backing and nailed to the frame in the corners. The backing is hollow for some reason. The picture itself doesn't seem to be raised like a thick oil painting. I'm not even sure if it's old. The colors aren't overtly bright, but they're not really faded either. They have numbers on the back, but that's probably a auction number. It might be the year idk. I know I'm not giving you much to work off of, but I don't see a signature, nor do I want to try to undo the picture from the frame. They're really nailed down. I'm not particularly looking to sell them, but I'd like to know what era or if they're even old at all. If you know the value then that's awesome too.

Provenance

Bought them at a church sale. I thought they were really, really cool. There was no history given to me.

What does this mean?

Dear Nathan,

You have two 20th century Ancestor paintings made in China. I feel around 1950. Ancestor paintings are made for a long time in China and are made for ancestor worship. There are painting of VIPs ( Very important people ) in the family and sometimes complete Family trees. These look painted indeed but can be made for export. Not sure these are made for traditional use. They are quite late. I think you have to see them as decorative paintings and therefor really nice. There is demand for Chinee art and I can imagine that some people will buy these. If you want to sell please be aware of selling them in an auctions house with a prescription to an online platform like Invaluable, the sales room or live auctioneers, that way you are sure also Chinese customers will see them and have a change to bid on them.
Regards,

Simon Breider

Thank you I really appreciate it. I'm just going to hang them up. They look cooler in person. I just wanted to know what I was looking at.
