Antique White Haired Gentleman Framed Portrait
21 May 2020
Description

A framed portrait depicting a white haired older gentleman wearing a white ruffle collar under a blazer with merits. Framed in a very heavy solid wood ornate gilt gold frame. My research: The subject depicts a gentleman wearing a blazer with three silver hunt dog buttons and badge to the left. Most likely one of the immortal seven with the crest indicative of his loyalty to William III and his coat with livery button indicating his Earlship of duchery (landgrant). Coat of Arms - Monarch Butterfly - name given to King William III (of orange); Seven Bishops - The Immortal Seven - lent their patronage/support to his invasion and signed an invitation; three crowns - William III united the three kingdoms of Ireland, Scotland, and England. Measurements: Portrait: 30" high x 25" wide; Frame: 42" high x 36" wide. Condition: Frame shows wear as show in pictures.

Dear Lisa,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. My sincere apologies for the delay but the research of the coat of arms takes a bit more time.

With kind regards,
Georg

Is this it??? No information or details, or are you still researching? Not sure how you came up with $300-$500 without the research. Please advise.

Dear Linda,

I am still researching and can identify the coat of arms probably tomorrow. The indicated estimate of 300 to 500 USD was a mistake. But as a fair warning no matter of the coat of arms this is probably an English portrait by a not first ranked artist around 1840 which would be estimated under 1000 USD.

With kind regards,
Georg

Thank you for your response. Although I did extensive research myself before sending to you, and have the appraisal list that was given to me from Toyota's administrative department, I wanted another opinion and that is why I submitted this to you. Before Toyota moved their NY headquarters to Plano they had several of their pieces appraised and this is one of them and it was appraised at $4,000 insurance value. I have a copy of the list of appraisal and will try to attach a copy it to this appraisal. Hope this helps and please let me know if aren't able to retrieve it and I'll try to send it another way.

Dear Lisa,

Thank you for the additional images/ information and your patience.

My sincere apologies for the delay

The presented object appears to be a painting made in oil paint on canvas with the measurements of 30 x 25 inches. The painting depicts a portrait of a gentleman in a black coat with a coat of arms oh his breast. the coat of arms can be identified as the coat of arms of the family Irvine in Great Britain (http://boutique.genealogie.com/blasons/armoiries-famille-irwin-84519). The costume is a hint that this piece was made in the 1840s or 1850s in Great Britain by an anonymous portraitist.
This piece is in good condition and there are no serious damages visible.
An estimation would be between 300 to 600 USD.
This estimation is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.

With kind regards,
Georg
