Antique Golden Oak Double Bed
26 March 2019
Description

This bed has been handed down since the late 19th century. It is a solid oak headboard about 6' tall and a foot-board that is around 3'tall. There might be side rails, I have seen some in the storage shed but the headboard and foot-board are now connected by a metal bed rail.

Provenance

This was my great grandfather's bed. He fought in the Civil War and was later a lawyer in East Texas. It has been handed down through the family. We need a value on it to divide the estate up equally. It will stay in the family.

Dear Nancy,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. So that I may best assist you, can you please upload a few better images of the connection between the headboard and the footboard.

With kind regards,
Georg

This is all I have right now. My mom's home is about 100 mi.
from where I live. I am the executor of the estate and I took pictures last week. I will not be returning until this coming Friday, April 5th. Do you just need me to take more specific pics. I can do it then or you can just give your best estimation as of now.

Dear Nancy,

Thank you for the additional images and your patience. Sadly regarding technical problems, the new images and messages were not displayed. I apologize for the delay. The presented object is a bed frame with the measurements of the headboard about 6' tall and a foot-board about 3'tall. The bed frame is made out of white oak wood. The decor dates this piece in the late 19th century. It appears that the side connection between the headboard and the footboard was replaced by a metal construction. That means this bed frame is not in original condition anymore.
An estimation would be between 150 to 300 USD.
This estimation is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.

With kind regards,
Georg

Georg,
That is good enough. We really want to keep it in the family and have a LOT of family heirlooms. I think those side rails are in the storage shed. We are placing a "value" on each item and that is considered part of the 4 siblings inheritance for individual items they would like. We are just trying to make sure they really want the item, if you know what I mean. This really helps a lot! Since I am the executor it is helping me to value the items!
