The piece is 44" tall and 27.5" wide. The front is painted and trimmed with a silk border. The back trim appears to be muslin. It has some wear on it. On the back are the words, "Buddha in the attitude of perfect mediation. Posture a perfect triangle." It appears to have 3 signatures on the back.

I inherited this from a friend who inherited this from a friend of hers in 1990 who passed away at 104 years of age. The piece appears to be quite old.

Thank you for your appraisal inquiry with Mearto. The item presented appears to be "thangka" painting. The object is a Tibetan Buddhist painting, typically composed of cotton, silk appliqué. The works usually depict Buddhist deities, otherworldly scenes, and mandalas. The item presented appears to date to the early 19th century, possibly earlier. However, an in-person examination may provide a more accurate determination. The estimate provided is based on recent auction estimates and results of this work and other comparable thangka paintings, depending on accurate dating and dimensions. The estimate is contingent on a full condition report. Please note asking or dealer prices may vary. Thank you and please take care.
