Provenance

My grandmother found it in a fire dump, 1946 , in Darwin during ww2

Thank you for submitting your item for appraisal. The circular trinket box and cover was made in Egypt in 1941-1942. It shows the date letter for that year and the national mark "Cat" plus the Cairo assay office mark for silver of a purity of 900 / 1000. The incised design might be inspired by kufic script.
