1 7/8" wide x 1.5" high pendant. About 3/8" thick in depth in the middle of the pendant, tapering to the edge to about 1/4" thick. Oval, but slightly irregular. There is some sort of mark on one of the edges on the back. The metal surrounding it has a 925 or 928 stamp-- metal looks slightly irregular

I found it at a large antique (and used items) pavilion that has dozens of booths rented by individual vendors.

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.

It is a beautiful silver mounted necklace with an amber pendant. Such amber pendant necklaces are being offered at auction on a regular basis.
The mark 925 is for sterlingsilver which is the best silver quality. The amber in the pendant has been polished which makes the natural variations of the amber stand out very clearly and beautifully. Your necklace has a modern look to it and was probably made in the last half of the 1900s. Demand on these necklaces may vary according to the colour of the amber and the way they are mounted in a piece of jewellery
For the last few years we have seen large chunks of amber selling at high prices, however these are rough and unpolished.

The estimate provided is for a well-advertised online auction, where I believe the necklace has the best chance of realising its fullest potential. However, there is no measurement for the sentimental value you might attach to the necklace. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions. I’m happy to help.
Thank you

Hello Sabrina,
Thank you for the reply. I am surprised at the range of $100-$500 dollars. A $400 difference seems like a large range. I have decided that I want to sell it and my goal in getting it appraised was to determine a fair price to ask for it. That still seems to be a question here. Also, did you happen to see the mark in the corner of the back of the amber? It is in one of the photos. I was wondering if you could tell me what that means. The other thing is that I thought you would be able to tell me about the amber's origin and how that relates to the value. Does that make sense?

Dear Rachel,
Thank you for your comment. Unfortunately it is not possible to tell the origin of the amber, however much amber made into jewellery comes from the eastern countries. The silver mark and style of the necklace indicates that the it was made in the last half of the 19 century. I saw the mark on the amber and it looks as if it has something to do with the polishing of the piece.
Pricewise I believe you necklace and earrings will sell for 100-300US$ however it may surprise that is the reason for the rather large estimate.

Hope this clarifies matters a bit more otherwise you are very welcome to write again.

Thank you.
