What does this mean?

Dear Jean-Luc,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry a second time and your trust in our service.

The presented object appears to be a charcoal or pastel drawing with white heightening and coloring on paper with the measurements of 22” x 18 1/2 inches. The drawing depicts the study of a young girl holding a wreat of flowers in her right hand. She is dressed in a simple tunica, an armlet and wears flowers in her wild and expressive hair. The fine execution of all details and the realistic shadow suggest a masterly hand.
The drawing is signed and dated with "1925" by the artist Alphonse MUCHA (1860-1939). The signature is combined with a Czech text by the artist. Some words are readable and these are highly possibly New Years´s and Christmas greetings.
This sketch is related to the context of old-Slavic motifs in the Oeuvre of Mucha because of the costume of the girl. The girl's traditional costume looks like the one of a priest or follower of an old-Slavic cult. Additionally, this motif is connected to his numerous and famous illustrations and his graphic work.
Artworks of this artist were recently offered and sold on the international and national auction market.
This piece is in good condition and there are no serious damages visible.
An estimation would be between 3.000 to 6.000 USD.
This estimation is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.

An artwork of such high potential value requires further authentication research. This estimate is provided on the condition of authenticity.

With kind regards,
Georg
