The appraised work appears to be an oil on canvas paintings possibly executed by British artist Thomas Sidney Cooper (1803-1902). The painting depicts a groups of bovines and sheep huddled together near a group of trees in the foreground, with other animals visible in the background. Cooper was born in Canterbury and is known for bucolic landscapes with cattle and sheep. After working as a carriage and theater painter, he studied at at the Royal Academy in London, where he was especially encouraged by portrait painter Sir Thomas Lawrence. The estimate provided is based on comparables recently offered and sold at auction. The appraised work's size, composition, medium and condition (based on photographs provided), as well as the artist's overall auction market were taken into consideration when determining the estimate. hi Georg
thank you for the appraisal
any reason for the range in the estimate 2000-8000 ?
are there two artists name Sidney cooper ? Thomas and William ?
which one is the painter ?
thanks

Yes, there were two Sidney Cooper artists--Thomas and William. Thomas was the great-uncle to William and they trained/painted together. Both artists share a similar style and interest (in terms of subject). It's likely that your painting was executed by Thomas, but there's a chance it was painted by William. A photograph of the signature would help in this case. The estimate provided is based on comparables sold at auction for Thomas Sidney Cooper. We provide an estimate range rather than a specific number.

Hope this helps,
Grace
