An aunt of mine worked as a cook in an officers' mess in Germany during world war ll. When everyone had to flee before the allied forces at the end of the war she took some of the silverware with her to prevent them falling prey to the enemy. She kept them safe and when she passed away one of her sisters inherited them. After she passed away they came to me.
