27 inch Well Loved Doll
04 September 2020
Description

As you can see in the pictures, the head, arms and legs are very loose. Seems that there is a rope on her inside that connects all body parts and has since started to come loose. Its made of very hard plastic, she has a number 40 on the back of her neck, no other markings. At one time she must have been a talking doll, she has a wind up lever on her belly, ut still makes noise but no way can you make out what shes saying. She came with clothes on, a dress and bloomers, I took them off to take pictures. The bloomers are deteriorating, see photo. Her eyes open and close, if you look hard enough at photo, she has teeth. She is coming apart because the rope on the inside of her is coming loose. Is she even worth taking somewhere to be repaired? Thank you

What does this mean?

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.

It is a cute doll. Such vintage and antique toys and dolls are being offered at auction on a regular basis.
I believe that your doll was a walking and talking doll made in the 1950s. The doll was probably made in America, as there was a tradition for novelty toys and dolls at this time. The number 40 maybe the size of the doll however it may also be the mould number of this particular doll. Both variations is often seen on dolls. The doll is made of hard plastic which was a new material used in the dolls and toys industry at this time.
The condition of the doll is based on your description and the photos ok but with some faults and signs of wear and use. This influences the price of the doll. If you intend to sell the doll it would probably be bought by a collector and dealer and they are usually capable of repairing the doll strings. Therefore I would not suggest that you spend money on this unless you intend to keep the doll yourself.

The estimate provided is for a well-advertised specialised online toys auction, where I believe the doll has the best chance of realising its fullest potential. However, there is no measurement for the sentimental value you might attach to the walking and talking doll. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions. I’m happy to help.
