17th century - Portuguese flamberge Rapier
28 November 2022
Description

This swords are known as the early Bilbao Rapiers. Used around 1650 by conquistadors and light cavalry. This sword is clearly from the 17th century because it has straight quillons unlike the later 18th century cavalry sword that has W or S shaped quillons. On one side of the sword it says " VIVA EL REY" and on the other side it says "DE PORTUGAL" It also has some markings on the strong of the blade but its hard to tell what they mean. The sword has clearly seen battle, the edge and blade have many beautiful marks and there is evidence for multiple resharpening.

Dimensions
