His passion for chairs brought about 500 chair designs, over 100 of which were put into mass production and became recognizable design icons worldwide and earned him the title “The Master of the Chair”. His known for integrating perfectly executed joints with exquisite shapes and combining them with a constant curiosity for materials while deeply respecting wood and its natural characteristics. His designs adorn minimalism with organic and natural softness. His most famous designs include the J16 Rocking Chair (1944), Chinese Chair (no.1 – 1944), Chinese Chair (no.4 – 1945), Peacock Chair (1947), Wishbone Chair (1949) and the Papa Bear Chair (1951).
