Dear Trevor, Thank you for choosing Mearto and for your patience. Considering these images, this set of items are: A beautiful finely decorated and hand-carved gold short sword in style of Meji period (probably late 19th century) with incised scrimshaw figures. This type of swords were produced extensively during WWII. In addition, the traditional Clay Tempering method was used on this blade. Clay tempering method is to apply clay on the spine of the blade, and mainly tempering the edge. This results a hardened edge and softened spine, makes it ideal for cutting.
