CSA Civil War Sword

Item shown is a Confederate sword that is about 37 inches in length with steel blade just under 1 inch wide. Handle is marked CSA and measures about 4 inches wide and 4.5 inches long. There is some movement where the blade meets the guard. Blade does have a few rough spots as shown in pictures. Sword also came with a leather pouch marked SHO (10.5x 8 x 2 inches). Shoulder strap is kinda rough and material is stiff but seems complete and has a brass bird/eagle.

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry, and I apologize for the delay. This is a considerably rare Confederate States Armory Staff Officer's Sword. It is considered one of the most sought-after Confederate swords from the Civil War. It is in distressed condition, with some degradation of the metal and leather. There are some chips in the blade, and some pitting throughout, although the corrosion is relatively stable. The brass guard has as heavy patina, but is also largely stable. The leather accessories add to this piece's rarity and value. Given the condition of this piece, and completed auctions of similar items, a fair market estimation is 31,000-33,000 dollars. This is a very special piece! Please reach out with any questions. Bo Stuck
